The western coast of Maharashtra is encircled by the Arabian Sea. Maharashtra has become one of the most advanced and industrialized states of India.

Maharashtra Tourism: Places to Visit

Below are some of the places which have to be in your “Places to Visit” list if you are planning for a trip to Maharashtra.

Ajanta and Ellora Caves (World Heritage Ancient Rock-Cut Caves)

The Ajanta and Ellora Caves both are declared as UNESCO World Heritage sites and are among the largest rock-cut monastery-temple cave complexes in the world. At Ajanta, there are 29 Buddhist cave temples while, the 34 Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist caves at Ellora. Most visitors opt to take an Ajanta and Ellora caves tour from Aurangabad as it is possible to explore both sites on a full-day tour. You can also plan from Mumbai as there is an airport in Mumbai which will make your traveling from other places a lot smoother.

Best Time To Visit: Although the caves are open for visitors throughout the year, it is advisable to visit this place from November to March when the weather is cooler and dryer:

Caution: The Ellora caves are closed on Tuesdays, while the Ajanta caves are closed on Mondays

Mahabaleshwar (The Land of Strawberries)

Mahabaleshwar is a hill station and an ideal location for the newly married couple. It is also known as the Land of strawberries as a large area is under strawberry cultivation. It has numerous rivers and Majestic peaks. You can also find ancient temples, boarding schools, manicured and lush green dense forest, waterfalls, hills, valleys to make your trip more exciting

Kolad – Maharashtra’s Home for White Water Rafting

Kolad is a thriving tiny village in the Raigad district in Maharashtra and it is famous for its white water rafting. Kolad has become one of the famous adventure sports destinations with provisions for rafting, rappelling, and kayaking. It has many famous waterfalls, green meadows.
