Some dishes seem weird, and something difficult to make by their names, and we skip to try them without even knowing, like Litti Chokha. It sounds Something difficult, a lengthy dish to make, it isn’t. Litti Chokha is a full meal,
it is a dough ball made up of whole wheat flour and filled with gram flour, pulses, and mixed with herbs and seasonings and then baked, rolled with much ghee, and chokha is mainly made of eggplant. It originated in Bihar, India also famous in Uttarpradesh, Jharkhand.
Litti Chokha is good for health as it does not have extreme cooking oil included. Both are either roasted or baked. And ghee which is used to make it can be used less to avoid calories.
The sattu powder used to make Litti has great cooling properties and keeps you active. Chokha is made with grilled eggplant which is a brilliant source of dietary fiber, vitamins, manganese, folate, and phytonutrients. Anyone can make it.
Prepare Traditional meal - Litti Chokha
Ingredients
- 2 and a half cups of Whole Wheat Flour
- 2 tablespoons Ghee
- 1/8 teaspoon Cooking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Ginger crushed
- 2-3 Green Chilli (Finely Chopped)
- 1 tablespoon Mustard Oil
- 2 tablespoon Fresh Coriander (Finely Chopped)
- 1 cup Sattu
- 2 tablespoons Pickle Masala
- 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
- Salt (as per taste)
- 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
- ---------------Chokha-------------
- 1 full eggplant/brinjal
- Tomato (2)
- Half cup chopped onion
- 2 and a half tbsp Mustard Oil
- 2 tsp chopped green chili
- 2 tbsp Fresh Coriander (Chopped)
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- Salt (as per taste)
Instructions
Preparing Baingan ka Chokha
- Toast the eggplant (baingan) and tomatoes over the fire directly until adequately cooked
- Take them in a bowl and let it warm
- Peel the layer of the eggplant and tomato and squash them well
- Add 1/2 cup Onion, 2 tsp Green Chilli, 2 tbsp, fresh Coriander, salt (as per taste), 3 tbsp Mustard Oil, and 1 tbsp Lemon Juice. mix them properly
Lets prepare Litti
- Add whole wheat flour, salt, ghee, and cooking soda in a bowl and mix well
- Add water and make a soft dough
- Cover and keep aside the dough for 30 minutes
- Take a bowl, put in ginger, chili, coriander, pickle masala, lemon juice, sattu, mustard oil, red chili, and salt (as per taste) in a bowl, and mix well
- Add some more oil if the filling is too dry
- You should be able to bind the filling in your hand
- Take out a lemon sized dough and make it into a ball
- Roll the dough ball to make a 4-5 inch circle
- Keep 2 tbsp of filling in the center of the dough and join the edges
- Nicely lock the edges
- (Do the same for all )
- keep aside the litti covered with a cloth
- Take the preheated oven Bake the litti for 20-25 minutes until browned from the top
- Flip the litti upside down and bake for another 10-12 minutes
- They should be equally cooked from all sides
- Grip the litti with a tong and toast them over the direct flame so that brown spots appear all over them
- Immerse the litti in ghee (as per taste)
